UAE support teams use Zendesk AI to answer common questions automatically, route tickets to the right team by intent, language and urgency, and draft replies and summaries for human agents (Zendesk). It works best with a current knowledge base in both Arabic and English, WhatsApp connected as a main channel, and clear rules for when a conversation goes to a person.
What does Zendesk AI include?
| Feature | What it does | Human role |
|---|
| AI agents | Answer common questions on chat, WhatsApp and email from your content | Handle what the AI hands over |
| Triage | Classifies tickets by intent, language and sentiment, routes them | Team leads set routing rules |
| Agent assistance | Suggests replies, summarises long tickets, recommends macros | Agents edit and send |
| Quality | Reviews conversations for tone and accuracy | QA leads coach |

What should you set up first?
- Knowledge base in Arabic and English, reviewed by native speakers, with one owner per topic.
- Top 30 questions by volume, each with a clear, current answer.
- Handover rules: complaints, refunds, legal threats, safety issues and VIP customers go to a person.
- Tone guide for both languages.
- Channel setup, with WhatsApp connected.
Why connect WhatsApp?
For many UAE businesses, WhatsApp is the busiest support channel. Connected to Zendesk, every conversation becomes a ticket with the full history, and AI agents can answer there. Since 1 July 2025, replies inside WhatsApp's 24-hour customer service window are free (Meta), so answering quickly costs little. See our WhatsApp Business API guide.
How do you measure support AI properly?
Deflection alone is misleading. Track:
- Resolution rate: conversations where the customer's problem was actually solved.
- Customer satisfaction on AI-handled conversations versus human ones.
- Handover quality: did the person receive the context, or did the customer repeat everything?
- First response time and total time to resolution.
- Reopened tickets after AI answers.
How should you protect customer data?
- Mask card numbers, ID numbers and passwords in tickets.
- Limit which agents and integrations can see sensitive fields.
- Set retention periods for old tickets.
- Follow the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (UAE Government portal).
Zendesk AI or a custom support agent?
Zendesk AI is the natural choice if your team already works in Zendesk and most answers come from your knowledge base. A custom agent fits better when answers depend on live data from other systems, such as order status from your e-commerce platform, availability from a booking engine or balances from an ERP, or when actions like refunds need strict approval rules and logs. A custom agent can still log everything in Zendesk. Read AI agents for business in the UAE.
How do you roll it out?
- Start with the top 30 questions on one channel.
- Review every AI conversation for the first two weeks.
- Fix knowledge gaps weekly.
- Add channels and topics as resolution rates hold.
What should the handover to a person look like?
The handover is where most AI support projects succeed or fail. A good one:
- Happens fast when the customer asks for a person, is angry, or mentions a refund, a complaint or a safety issue.
- Passes the context: a short summary, the customer's details, order or booking number, and what the AI already tried.
- Tells the customer what happens next: who will reply and roughly when, especially outside working hours.
- Keeps the language: an Arabic conversation goes to an Arabic-speaking agent where possible.
- Is measured: track how often customers repeat themselves after handover, and fix the cases where they do.
Customers forgive an AI that cannot help if a person picks up smoothly. They do not forgive being stuck in a loop. Our Arabic AI chatbot guide covers language handling in more detail.
